Wheels and Tires:
Wheel Balancing

When your tire is balanced, its weight is evenly positioned around the rim. Most auto shops use a dynamic balancing machine to spin the tire and wheel. This tells the mechanic what parts of the wheel need weight, which he adjusts with small lead bars on the rim.

The balancing machine not only tells the technician where the weight needs to be installed, but it also tells him how much weight to apply. As a result, wheel weights come in a wide variety of sizes.
