The Audio System
Audio systems continue to evolve to meet driver demand for newer, more sophisticated sound systems. Technologies, such as satellite radio deliver digital sound anywhere in the United States and the quality of sound continues to improve. In fact, the car radio is in the process of going through a pretty massive transformation. Most radios are at least equipped with a tuner and a cassette player. Today, many stereo systems include powerful amplifiers and mega base options. Technology is driving car radios with more and more powerful audio system. But the really dramatic changes are occurring elsewhere. In the past we've had the option of AM or FM radio or in some luxury models a weather band. But satellite radio is dramatically changing the range of programming. Moreover, auto manufacturers, audio, computer and software companies are working closely together to transform the radio into a more dynamic communications center. In the near future the radio may act more like a computer, downloading email, directions, MP3 songs, or even movies that will be displayed on digital monitors. The future radio will also provide road side assistance and even the ability of remote diagnostics of automobile trouble.
While the future looks bright, on some levels very little has changed over the years. Most audio systems still rely on a radio, an antennae and speakers.
In this section we encourage you to tune in on our discussion of radio basics. See how power antennae deliver the stations and amplifiers and speakers work together to rattle your windows.
