Implimentation of enviro-friendly legislation
Law makers have tasked automotive service facilities with implementing environmental legislation. To comply, many service facilities have had to purchase expensive equipment equipment to safely handle and dispose of fluids. In addition, new equipment and procedures had to be put in place to implement recycling programs. Recycling programs have played a key role in reducing the total amount of waste by products disposed of annually. In addition, to meet compliance standards, facilities have had to employ specially certified technicians to obtain refrigerants and perform AC repairs. While protecting the environment is important, those costs are ultimately passed on to the consumer in the form of higher service and repair costs.
Refrgerants have unique qualities
Refrigerants are used to absorb, carry and dispose of the passenger compartment's heat. As a chemical compound, refrigerants have a number of unique qualities that make them ideal for cooling your car's interior on a hot day. As a category, refrigerants are liquids with very low boiling points. The refrigerant used in automotive cooling systems boils at minus 22 degrees fahrenheit. Refrigerants also have the ability to change rapidly from a liquid to a vapor and back again as the temperatures they are subjected to changes by just a few degrees.
At its heart, the AC system is largely comprised of three major components, the evaporator, the compressor, the condenser, and in some vehicles a receiver-drier. The actual cooling process begins with the evaporator. |
